A fine rate allows you to specify the rate at which a fine will be calculated, when an overdue resource is returned. The Fine Rate plays an important part in the calculation and is multiplied by the number of overdue days when the item is returned. The fine rate can be adjusted for each resource type, which means that you can set a different rate depending on whether an item is a book, film, text book etc.

On the whole, the fine rate is defined by altering the resource restrictions. See the resource type restrictions settings topic for more information on altering this for an entire resource type. Should you wish to set a specific fine rate on a particular resource, you can use lock restrictions.

Note that changes to Fines are not taken into effect for resources currently on loan, only new loans from this point forward.
