When a Shibboleth Idp is being used for authorisation on a VLE, Single-Sign-on can be achieved when the appropriate configuration has been made in the library application as described here.

 

When a user has already authenticated on the VLE and then the user navigates to the library site, the Idp is again checked for whether this existing user has a current Shibboleth session. If the user has, there is no need to authenticate with the authentication service and the applicable data is passed to the SP in the normal manner, thus automatically logging the user in.

 

Non-Shibboleth-based VLE's

 

When a VLE is not using a Shibboleth-based Single-sign-on solution then currently it is not possible to achieve SSO, other configuration normally only works within an organisation.
