In Eclipse.net or Junior Librarian.net, items can become associated with each other for the purpose of reservations and so the system can keep track of the amount of the amount of copies. Resources become linked when they share the same EAN/ISBN at the point of cataloguing. For example, should you catalogue one resource with ISBN 9781408810293 and then catalogue another copy with that same ISBN then these resources will become linked together.
If you do not use the same ISBN at the point of cataloguing then these resources will not be associated. In the context of a book for example, should you add a new edition of the same title (one that has a different EAN/ISBN) then the system will treat this as a separate entity. Should you wish to associate 2 editions that both have different ISBN's then they must share the same ISBN at the point of cataloguing, which means you must use the original ISBN.
