A journal is a research-orientated  publication, written be experts in the related subject. In the library system, a journal template has its own resource type so it can be differentiated from periodicals but the cataloguing process is the same. There is a distinct difference a Journal Template and a Journal Issue. The former is a template for its belonging Journal Issues. Journal issues can be issued (if desired) whereas the Journal template cannot.

Journal templates can be catalogue in the same way as periodicals only it is necessary to select 'Journal' on the New Resource screen and any subsequent screens.

For more information about cataloguing Journals, see the topic Getting Started with Periodicals.
