Quick Cat is a new feature of iMLS that allows the user to catalogue books. Quick Cat does not offer the full cataloguing functionality that the desktop app does but it allows the user to add the book barcode, ISBN and Title. Quick Cat may be particularly helpful in a new library when there are volunteers helping to catalogue all the resources. More detailed information can be added onto the resource using the full desktop version at a later stage.
This functionality is only available when the app is in Online mode.
The steps in this topic explain how to use Quick Cat.
·Log in to iMLS as a user who has permissions to access Quick Cat.
·Once logged in, using the left menu scroll down and tap Quick Cat.
· When a cellular / WiFi connection is available, the system will update Data Store to ensure no conflicts when cataloguing.
·In the Resource Barcode text box either type or use a bluetooth scanner (Model OPN 2002 supplied by MLS) to scan the accession number of the resource.
·Next, using the scanner, camera or keyboard, enter the ISBN of the resource normally found on the back of the book (usually beginning with 978...).
·Tab Done once both boxes have been entered. iMLS will then try to find a resource registered with that ISBN. If one is found, the details of the resource will be returned such as in the example below. If a match cannot be found then the title of the resource can be entered by pressing the pencil icon ().
·Tap Save once the title has been entered.
Once save is pressed, the resource is then added into the library catalogue. More detailed bibliographic information can be added onto the resource using the full version. Quick Cat is not intended to replace the desktop versions cataloguing ability and is only used to log the basic information.
