A vertical tutor group is a group populated by borrowers of all ages (years), rather than by groups of the same age. This version of the software caters for vertical Tutor Groups by allowing borrowers from multiple years to be members of a single tutor group.

The previous version of the application worked differently, the group name would be created several times each with a different year group. For example:

8A Year 7

8A Year 8

8A Year 9

The latest version allows groups to be mixed. For example:

8A, Year 7, 8 and 9.

The steps below explain how to set up vertical tutor groups when manually managing borrowers and tutor groups. A quicker way to add borrowers to the system is by using a CSV file to import them, more details can be found here.

·Create the group as normal as described here. The record of a tutor group used in this example is shown below.

·Create a borrower that belongs to this group (and year). Creating borrowers manually is described in more detail here.

·Nothing has changed at this point, if the tutor group is checked then it is exactly the same as it was.

·If the next borrower that is added is not a member of the tutor groups default year (which in this example is 11 at the moment) then this must be changed on their record as shown below.

·Now when checking the tutor group (Z) through tutor groups, notice that the year group field is now uneditable and cannot be changed. This is because the group now contains borrowers from varying years (11 and 7).

·Continue adding borrowers in this method as desired.
