Management Changes
The Management section has been completely re-written to work in MS Silverlight. While we have tried to keep it as similar as possible to the old Management, some areas have been changed to add previously requested features or options moved to more logical locations.
On every screen there is now a help button in the bottom left. Clicking on this will load our new online user guide and open at the appropriate topic.
.png)
The scheduling functionality has been completely re-designed and improved. Because it is not possible to accurately covert the jobs from a previous system, all tasks apart from housekeeping will need re-configuring. This can now be accessed from a permanent link on the right of the Management page labelled "Scheduler".

New Feature – Continuous Scrolling Lists
The grid has changed from ‘pages of items’ back to one long list that can be scrolled through. This brings it back in line with how it worked in Eclipse 2.
Pageviews can now be configured to show extra information when an item in the grid is selected. This is via a drop down preview pane.
.png)
This is available in all sections allowing extra information to be displayed.
To customise this open the applicable pageview for editing, then select the ‘Row Template’ tab:
.png)
In this tab add the required fields and save. They will then be shown when an item in the grid is selected.
Due to popular demand we have added the F9 feature back to Eclipse. This was previously in the older Eclipse 2 software but was missing from Eclipse.net.
When you have catalogued 1 item and you go to catalogue another you can now select any field in the new record and press F9, the system will then copy whatever you entered in that field (for the last resource catalogued). So for example if you fill in the Location / Owner fields you can now fill it in the for the first record then just click in the field and press F9 for all subsequent resources added. This is per session, so if Eclipse.net is closed it will reset what is remembered for the F9 feature.
A new ‘Dashboard’ feature has been added this allows quick viewing of statistics for your school as well as community statistics calculated from all hosted sites.
This should automatically open when you load Management, or can be accessed from Modules – Reporting – Dashboard:
.png)
This allows quick viewing of important stats on library usage, giving you an instant snapshot of your library.
.png)
Clicking "Community" shows stats are derived from all sites using a MLS hosted system. This allows you see which books are popular across all schools, which books boys / girls are taking out most (to aid in creating reading lists / wish lists), as well as many other reports.
.jpg)
New Feature - Data Tidy - can now be used to set default values for fields
You can now use data tidy to set default values for your fields.
.png)
New Feature - Search Cloud allows a custom list to be added / used
.png)
New Feature - Pageviews can be temporarily edited on the fly
Fields can be quickly removed from a pageview by dragging the field to the top, this allows you to remove the field (if you are only interested in a few details). These changes are not saved so opening the pageview again will restore these removed fields.
Clicking on a heading and dragging it to the top will bring up a delete dialog:
.png)
This then removes the heading from appearing (just click on the section, e.g. Reservations, to bring it back).
.png)
New Feature - Borrower Record Card – Webcam support added
Borrower record cards now support webcams for taking photos. Next to the borrower image is a Webcam icon that can be clicked on to enable the webcam and take pictures.
.png)
New Feature - Tutor groups – Image option added
Tutor Groups can now have an image saved against the record. As an example this could be used for a picture of the Tutor, or School House that the group belongs to.
New Feature - Quick Search – Customisable field selection
The quick search for Management and OPAC (front screen) now allow you to specify exactly which fields you’d like it to use. This means you can remove things like summary or add other fields that were not previously part of this search (e.g. location).
This is accessed through Settings – General, then select the quick search tab.
.png)
New Feature - Customise Labels
Users can now create label styles and write their own reports.
New Feature - Restrictions – Shows which borrowers are using the restriction.
Now has a ‘members’ tab that shows Borrowers / TGs that have that restriction applied to them:
.png)
New Feature - Management – Sorting
When you open a sort dialog for a table in Management it now has an extra set of options.
Visible fields, allowing you to quickly choose any of the fields visible on the open pageview:
.png)
New Feature - Tutor Groups – Find button added
A ‘Find’ button has been added next to Form Tutor. This allows you to link a Borrower as the Form Tutor which will then update if the borrower record changes (e.g. Name change due to marriage):
This displays as “Title Surname”
.png)
New Feature - Resource RC – Marc Viewer option added to bottom
The ability to see a resource record in Marc format has been added to the bottom of the resource record card.
.png)
New Feature - Management - Grid – Right click menu added
A right click menu has been added to the Management grid, this allows you to right click and select various features rather than selecting them from the tools section.
New Feature – Customisable ‘Date format’.
The ability to customise the date format and local time used throughout the system has been added to ‘Settings – General’:
.png)
New Feature – Vertical Tutor Groups Support
Support for Vertical Tutor Groups has been enhanced. Borrowers from different year groups can now be put in the same Tutor Group, when this happens the year of the Tutor Group will be fixed to 0 (to reflect it is a vertical group). You can also now change a borrowers year from inside the Borrower record card.
MLS are pleased to be working in partnership with Peters to deliver a fantastic new online bookshop integrated into Eclipse and Junior Librarian, offering the following benefits to MLS customers.
·Exclusive pricing for MLS customers
·Personal Shopper service
·One click access from Eclipse and Junior Librarian
·‘Coming Soon’ section to preview new resources
·Enhanced bibliographic data on all orders
·Easy import of new orders into Eclipse and Junior Librarian
·Barcoding and labelling service
New Feature – Management Themes
A number of themes have been added which will alter the icon set and background colours of Management.
.png)
You can no longer type in barcodes, it will only allow you to scan them.
Is now sent directly to printer, no longer generates a PDF.
You can now create a 'wish list', of books directly in the app. Selecting "Go to basket’, will then launch the Peter’s bookshop and automatically select the items in the basket list (assuming they are for sale within Peter’s bookshop). In a later update, students will be able to add to this from iMLS.

Circulate Changes
.png)
Circulate now opens in a new browser tab. This allows quick switching between all three areas (Library Search, Management and Circulate.
New Feature – Tutor Group Dropdown Added
While you can still just type directly into the borrower box to select borrowers, a new dropdown has been added allowing you to select a specific tutor group. It will then limit results to that group, meaning if one class are in the library you can set Circulate to limit the borrower searches to just that class. Pressing ‘New’ or the Escape key twice will clear this field.
New Feature – Can double click Resources to view details.
Resource details can now be viewed by double clicking the resource in the Current Loans grid. This will open the Management window and automatically open the resource record card. If Management is already open you will need to switch to that tab.
New Feature - Second barcode box added
A second barcode box has been added to the Circulate tab, and also appears on the Multi Return tab. This allows you to type in a resource barcode number and it will automatically issue / return it (Circulate tab), or return the item (Multi Return tab). This stops you having to search for the resource in ‘Find Resources’ first for items where you already know the barcode.
.png)
.png)
Next to the second barcode box is a new icon called ‘Views’ this will open the ‘edit pageview’ screen for the currently selected tab and allows fields to be added / removed quickly and easily.
New Feature - Charge button added
A charge button has been added to the Statements tab, this allows you to apply a ‘fine’ against a borrower’s balance. This enables correcting fines if they were not enabled, or removing money from the child’s balance if you have, for example, added some as a ‘deposit’ against a hardware loan.
.png)
When clicked a small box will open asking for a description and the fine amount:
New Feature - Webcam support added
Circulate now supports webcams for taking photos. Like on the borrower record card a webcam icon has been added next to the image.
New Feature - Recycled records can now be issued / renewed / returned
If you try to issue or return a resource that has previously been recycled (as it was thought lost / damaged / etc) it will now carry out the operation and move the item back into the live library. A message prompt will be displayed advising of this.
.png)
New Feature - Restriction messages only show once per borrower
Messages now only show once per borrower (per Circulate session). So if issuing 2 books to a borrower with overdue items it will only warn for the first item, it remembers your choice for the second one
Eclipse.net Front Screen Changes
New Feature - Catalogue Enrichment
When looking at search results in the Library Search interfaces a new option has been added to the resource records 'More Info'
. This option will open a new tab / window with extra information about the resource including:
Summary - The Book Summary
Reviews - Reviews from publishers / journals
About the Author - Information about the author
First Chapter - The first chapter of the book to preview (Note: Due to copyright this is not available for every book)
Example:
.png)
When your students first log into the new CPP release they’ll notice a few things have moved slightly.
‘Who Next’ is now in a box in the bottom left and if it has detected some applicable books to suggest it will display the covers of three in this box. Where ‘Who Next’ was located there is now a link to our new ‘Channels’ option.
.png)
Clicking on the ‘Who Next’ box opens the full list, just like it did previously:
.png)
We’ve found a large number of schools use the news articles in order to provide links to school websites or external resources. To help provide a more functional system of links we’ve added the channels option, this allows you to setup permanent links in different categories for your students and staff to use.
.png)
These are setup through the Management section in a new option called ‘Channels’ on the ‘Settings’ menu:
In here you can add new channels and have the option to re-enable the ‘Loans’ option or add the ‘Dashboard’ as options within Channels.
.png)
When adding a new link you just have to enter a Title and the URL, although you can also enter a description and choose from an extensive new list of icons if desired:
.png)
Stockcheck removed from front screen
Stockcheck is no longer available on the Silverlight front screen. It is now only available from inside management.
Live Media open in Silverlight
Videos no longer try to launch external programs (like media player) they will now play in the bottom left box of the E.net Interface (same as Meet the Author videos).
.jpg)
Image not available icons have changed
If a resource does not have an image it will no longer show the icon with ‘Image not available’:
e.g.

The returns trolley has been changed slightly in order to work in a more logical way. Previously it would display the last 10 items to be returned to the library. It will now show the last 10 items that were returned and are still available. Therefore if a book is returned, and then quickly taken out, it will disappear from the returns trolley. This was to stop cases of children becoming confused as an item showed in the returns trolley but had already been loaned out to another borrower.
New Feature - Class colour code
Class colour code now appears in the E.net UI (next to the class):
.png)
New Feature – Multi Language support
When logged in the personal preferences area now allows a choice of different languages and when one is selected will translate the front page and Management (if the account has access).
NOTE: We are aware a small number of field translations are still not included for some languages.
.png)
e.g. French
.png)
After carrying out a search the resource information in the details box has some of the fields now contained in a box. This is to highlight that you can now click on this and it will carry out a search for all resources related to that word and field. For instance, if you click on "Rowling, J.K", in the Author field, the system will display every resource with an author of "Rowling, J.K.".
.png)
This is not only limited to the "Author" field and also applies to other fields such as keywords and Level.
