As any Periodical or Journal added to the system is automatically given its own resource type, they can easily be found on the system using an advanced search and made into a page view if desirable. This topic demonstrates how to locate resources catalogued using the Periodical or Journal, resource type.

It is recommend to read the Getting Started with Periodicals topic before following the steps in this article.

Management - Page View

When the Periodicals and Journals module was introduced to the library system, 2 page view were added that show you all Periodicals or Journals.

·In Management, click More under Views on the right menu.

·In the Views box, select either Periodicals or Journals from the list (depending on which ones you wish to view). In this demonstration, we are selecting Periodicals.

·Click Select and a list of Periodicals (or Journals if you selected the 'Journals' view) will show.

Notice in the above that the Periodical templates and Periodical Issues show in the list. When a pupil is browsing the catalogue from the home page, they will not see the template resources.

Why not make this page view available on the home page so the pupils can easily see all Periodicals? See the topic Setting a View to be Available on the Home Page for instructions.

Management - Advanced Search

Aside from using a Page View, Periodical and Journal resources can be located through Advanced Search by searching on the Type field and using either Periodical, Periodical Issue, Periodical Article, Journal, Journal Issue or Journal Article in the value. The instructions below demonstrate this.

·Click <Advanced Search> from the top right menu.

·In the field drop down menu, choose Type.

·In the Value drop down menu, choose either Periodical, Periodical Issue, Periodical Article, Journal, Journal Issue or Journal Article.

·Click OK to add this to the grid then click Apply.

The results will then show in the grid depending on what was entered into the value field.
